In this lesson

Create two process states and an agenda that opens their details in the viewer you plan to use.

Example

A process detail that deserves attention

Use three rectangles labelled Intake, Review and Resolve. Start with all three at equal size. On the next slide enlarge Review and add the note Check priority before assigning work. Build an agenda slide with links to Overview and Review detail. The lesson uses only ordinary shapes and supplied text; no external imagery or animation assets are needed.

How it works

A transition belongs to the incoming slide. Morph compares related objects across neighbouring slides, making a change in position or size understandable; it does not need a separate motion-path effect on every object.

PowerPoint Zoom is a navigation feature with slide or section previews, not the editing-window zoom slider. Its authoring and playback support is narrower than ordinary hyperlink support.

Steps

  1. Create a Title Only slide named Every ticket passes through three stages. Insert equally sized Intake, Review and Resolve rectangles in a left-to-right row with their labels inside.

  2. Duplicate the complete slide rather than redrawing it. On the duplicate enlarge Review, move the other stages aside and add Check priority before assigning work below the enlarged rectangle.

  3. Select the duplicate slide and choose Transitions › Morph. Set a duration around one second and preview the movement. Keep the duplicated objects related so PowerPoint can match them across the two states.

  4. If matching is wrong, open the Selection Pane on both slides and give the Review rectangle the same name beginning with !!, such as !!ReviewStage. Use this matching override only for the intended pair.

  5. Add an agenda slide. On supported desktop choose Insert › Zoom › Slide Zoom and select Overview and Review detail; arrange the preview objects and set Return to Zoom when the chosen Zoom type offers it.

  6. Test Slide Show: choose the detail, return to the menu and then choose the other branch. Create a duplicate fallback agenda using ordinary text hyperlinks and a Next button for web or Teams delivery, and test the fallback separately.

Try it yourself

  1. Change the second state so Resolve grows instead of Review and update its note to Confirm the customer outcome. Remove or rename any !!ReviewStage override that no longer describes the intended pair.
  2. Export or distribute a linear three-slide version: overview, review detail, resolve detail. Ensure the narrative remains understandable even when the animated movement and Zoom navigation are absent.
Show expected result
  • The enlarged stage and explanatory note agree in both the Review and Resolve variants.
  • The desktop Zoom menu and the separate ordinary-link fallback each reach the intended detail; the linear version has the same content.

If something goes wrong

Morph dissolves the object instead of moving it.
Check that you duplicated the first slide rather than redrawing the object. Compare the object names on both slides. Remove a conflicting override, or give the intended pair the same matching name.
The audience cannot use the Zoom menu in a browser or Teams.
Zoom is not supported in PowerPoint for the web or PowerPoint Live in Teams. Use the ordinary-link agenda or the linear slide sequence, and test that version in the audience’s viewer.

Quick check

Try these questions after the exercise. Check the result in your app before marking the lesson complete.

1. Which slide receives the Morph transition?
2. Does editing-window zoom create a Zoom navigation menu?
3. What is the web/Teams fallback here?

Choose an answer for all 3 questions to check your understanding.

Optional: try it with Copilot

If you have Copilot, try this after the exercise. Keep the original file and compare its suggestions with your own result.

Propose a brief explanation for highlighting Review in an Intake–Review–Resolve process. Describe the meaning of the emphasis rather than asking for decorative motion.
