# Practice files and answer checks

All files are public teaching examples with invented names and organizations. No real customer or employee data is included.

## How to use the files
CSV downloads are plain UTF-8 text. In Excel use Data > From Text/CSV or the corresponding import command and review column types before loading. Your region may use semicolons in formulas or a different CSV separator. Dates should be interpreted intentionally; month strings such as 2026-01 identify a period, not a complete date.

Word and presentation briefs are Markdown text. Copy their content into a new DOCX or PPTX working file, apply the lesson’s structure and keep a named original before large changes. These briefs are not finished Office files.

## Sales controls
sales.csv has eight rows and the headers Month, Region, Rep, Product, Sales. Grand total: 9450. West: 4500. East: 3350. North: 1600. January: 3950. February: 3300. March: 2200.

The SUMIFS lesson uses only the first six sales rows in A1:C7, with Region, Rep, Sales. Its East total is 2050, not 3350; the later eight-row PivotTable includes March. West sales of at least 1500 total 3300.

messy-sales.csv has four source rows. After trimming spaces and standardizing capitalization, remove the duplicate West/Maya Chen/1200 record. Three rows remain with total Sales 2850.

monthly-sales.csv has six West/East region-month records. It intentionally excludes North. Total 7850, West 4500, East 3350. Do not compare its grand total to 9450 without explaining that exclusion.

## Mail merge controls
customers.csv has four invented recipients, two with Country US. Preserve PostalCode as Text during import; Maya’s 02110 must retain its leading zero. The UK postcode SW1A 1AA and Canadian M5H 2N2 must keep their spaces. Merge all: four letters. Filter Country US: two letters.

## Lookup controls
products.csv has five unique ProductID values. LT01 costs 1200, MN01 350, HS01 75, KB01 45 and MS01 25. Missing product IDs should produce an explicit not-found result, not an invented price.

## Presentation controls
The presentation brief contains Jul 1240, Aug 1610, Sep 1180 and Oct 1050 tickets. Q3 total: 4030. Four-month total: 5080. August is the maximum.

## Check your actual output
Compare row counts, keys and control totals before and after edits. Inspect the exported PDF or video, not only the editing view. Platform-specific features, VBA and DAX need the relevant native Office version; the website’s self-check does not execute Office formulas or macros.

## Editable project files
Save a working copy before you edit. Each project has a starter and a separate worked answer; use the answer after trying the lesson.

- Word memo: word-memo-starter.docx and word-memo-solution.docx. Follow /en/word/styles-and-headings. The answer uses Title, five Heading 1 sections and five Heading 2 subsections. Budget precedes Responsibilities; Risks is last. Update the table-of-contents field after changing headings. Page numbers can vary with your fonts and Word edition.
- Excel dashboard: sales-dashboard-starter.xlsx and sales-dashboard-solution.xlsx. Follow /en/excel/sales-dashboard-project. Raw contains the eight records from sales.csv. In the answer, Clean contains the table DashboardSales; Summary calculates the totals and Dashboard links to them. Summary B2 is 9450 and B3 is 8. Monthly totals are 3950, 3300 and 2200.
- PowerPoint chart: powerpoint-chart-starter.pptx and powerpoint-chart-solution.pptx. Follow /en/powerpoint/charts-and-typography and Part A of presentation-brief.md. There are six slides; the worked answer's slide 3 contains an editable chart with embedded data, not a picture.
- PowerPoint capstone: presentation-capstone-starter.pptx and presentation-capstone-solution.pptx. Follow /en/powerpoint/presentation-capstone and Part B of presentation-brief.md. Keep the six-slide order: Purpose, Evidence, Interpretation and limits, Proposed pilot, Measurement plan, Decision requested. A seventh Questions slide is a separate extension for Part A.

## Add one sale to the dashboard
Use a disposable copy. Add 2026-03 / West / Maya Chen / Dock / 300 as the ninth data record on Raw. This practice workbook has no live Power Query connection: copy the new record into the next table row on Clean as the lesson directs. Confirm that DashboardSales includes the new row, then recalculate and inspect the chart. Expected results: 9 records, total 9750, West 4800 and March 2500. Editing Raw alone will not refresh Clean.

## Review scope
The editable files have been checked for content, native document/table/chart structure, stored calculation results and rendered layout. These are file and rendering checks, not a claim that every feature has been reproduced in Microsoft Office on every platform. Confirm table expansion and recalculation in Excel, update Word fields and inspect PowerPoint's Edit Data, reading order and exported output in the edition you use. The website's review date records an editorial review, not a native Office certification.
